Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed plans to expand his Highland estate

The Ruler of Dubai plans to build an 11-bedroom lodge.

The UAE Royal family loves the UK and is often seen frequenting the region. This time around, there’s news that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is set to enhance his Highland escape with the addition of an 11-bedroom mansion on the Inverinate Estate in Wester Ross.

The Inverinate Estate, owned by Sheikh Mohammed, sprawls across 63,000 acres on the north shore of Loch Duich. It is an embodiment of luxury, featuring helipads, two substantial homes, a 16-bed hunting lodge, a pool, and a gym.

Now, Sheikh Mohammed seeks to construct an 11-bedroom lodge adjacent to the recently completed 17-bed Benula Lodge. According to documents submitted to the Highland Council in November for approval, the new lodge aims to address the Ruler of Dubai’s need for more extensive accommodation to accommodate his immediate and extended family, as well as friends, during their visits.

Sheikh Mohammed, with an estimated fortune of £14 billion, acquired the Inverinate Estate over 20 years ago as an escape from the scorching Middle Eastern summers and he spends a few weeks each year on the estate. During this year’s summer visit, he was spotted enjoying a boat ride in the picturesque countryside. He was also seen at other iconic locations such as Harrods and Hyde Park.

His presence in the UK has been widely documented on social media, where he is seen mingling with businessmen, celebrities, family, and fans. Notably, he attended the Coronation of King Charles III in London, expressing the importance of the longstanding historical relationship between the UAE and the UK. He said, “The UAE and the UK share a longstanding historical relationship, and we look forward to further enhancing it and taking it to new levels during the reign of the new king.”
