Miss World 2023 is coming to the UAE

This is the first time the beauty pageant has been held in the Middle East.

What do Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra and Toni Ann-Singh have in common? Well, they were all Miss World winners. Now, you can watch the next beauty queen get crowned right here in the UAE, as it will be home to the 71st Miss World Festival. Here’s what we know so far about Miss World in the UAE.

The Miss World Instagram account announced the news with a picture of Dubai and the caption: “I am delighted to announce the 71st Miss World Festival will be held in…”. The previous event was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and this will be the first time that it has taken place in the UAE.

The tag line for the competition is beauty with a purpose. Last year’s winner was Miss Poland, Karolina Bielawska, who is a model and television presenter. This was the second time that Poland won the competition. The runner’s up included Miss UAE, Shree Saini, and Ivory Coast’s Olivia Yace. In Miss World tradition, Miss Poland will attend the upcoming event and crown the new winner.

The world-famous competition was created in the United Kingdom in 1951, and is the oldest-running beauty pageant of its kind. Since its conception, it has attracted controversy. In 1970, feminist protest groups threw flour bombs at the live event in London’s Royal Albert Hall. Plus, the swimwear round was removed and then returned.

The date and location have not yet been confirmed, but check in with FACT for the latest updates.
