Akira Back to open gourmet pop-up Dasha, The Dubai Chapter

Indulge in Korean and Japanese fusion food in the DIFC restaurant.

Dubai is brimming with celebrity chefs. One celebrity chef who has already put their mark on the city is internationally renowned chef Akira Back, who is behind the self-titled restaurant on W Dubai – The Palm. Now he is opening his second restaurant in Dubai – Dasha, The Dubai Chapter – which looks set to be a dining destination.

Akira Back’s Dasha, The Dubai Chapter is coming to DIFC’s Jumeirah Emirates Tower this October. Located on levels 50 and 51, we imagine it will have some top-notch views of the city. Warning: the restaurant will be a six-month pop-up, so make sure you schedule in time to visit.

Serving a fusion of Korean and Japanese flavours, we are hoping that it draws inspiration from Akira Back’s Dasha in Toronto. The original venue has a modern take on Chinese dishes including kung pao chicken, Mongolian-style steak, and Peking duck. Plus, it has an upmarket karaoke bar, which includes five private rooms, each designed by a local artist.

For Akira Back’s Dasha, The Dubai Chapter, he has chosen to collaborate with Gates Hospitality. The hospitality group is behind restaurants including Bistro Des Arts, folly and Reform.

Naim Maadad, the founder of Gates Hospitality, explains: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with one of the best global chefs in the industry. Pop-ups are all about bringing fresh, new and exciting experiences to the market and in a vibrant city like Dubai, we as operators need to react and learn to the ever-changing market trends and consumer reactions.”

Akira Back was born in Seoul, Korea and had an unusual route into the restaurant industry. At the age of 15, he started snowboarding and would compete professionally. He later studied at the International Culinary School at The Institute of Colorado, and went on to work in Aspen, Texas and Hawaii.

Today, he has restaurants across the world including San Diego, Singapore and Seychelles. In 2018, he awarded a MICHELIN Star for his restaurant Dosa in Seoul. Plus, he has restaurants opening in Doha, Istanbul, London and Saudi Arabia.

We can’t wait to dash to Dasha, The Dubai Chapter.
