SUSHISAMBA Dubai opens its doors next month.

Hey, remember when the announcement of SUSHISAMBA’s 2020 opening made headlines back in 2019, only to take a backseat to a little thing called coronavirus? Well, the wait is over – the globally acclaimed dining destination is set to open its first-ever Middle East outpost in Dubai next month.

SUSHISAMBA is renowned for its unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian flavours, which will be served up on the 51st floor of Palm Tower. Expect unobstructed, 360-degree views of the Palm Jumeirah coastline, the Arabian Gulf, Ain Dubai and the Dubai skyline. Incidentally, the launch of SUSHISAMBA Dubai – the highest restaurant on Palm Jumeirah – coincides with the artificial island’s 20th anniversary.

Design-wise, the venue’s interiors offer bold architectural gestures and graphics, courtesy of award-winning interior design studio ICRAVE. Capitalising on the restaurant’s unique location at 230 metres atop Palm Jumeirah are floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the 12,000-square-foot space. SUSHISAMBA Dubai’s bar and lounge area, which pays tribute to the aesthetic and cultural sensibilities of Japan, merges nuanced details and natural materials with influences of geometry and nature to create a relaxed, yet intimate setting.

The main dining area nests under the restaurant’s 3D printed bamboo ceiling that was inspired by both Japanese and Brazilian woodwork and weaving traditions, making it equal parts traditional and tropical. Not only does this feature weave its way through the space to connect different areas, but it also highlights and creates different zones. The vibrant spirit of Brazil and Peru, meanwhile, are celebrated through striking textiles and finishes in warm, bright colours. And would an restaurant rooted in Japanese cuisine even feel complete without an open kitchen? Hint: no.

But a theatrical setting and dynamic design elements are only part of the multi-sensory dining experience expected at SUSHISAMBA Dubai – it’s the artfully presented signature dishes that will have foodies vying for a spot. “Dubai is one of the most sophisticated cosmopolitan cities in the world,” says Chef Moon Kyung Soo, Culinary Director of SUSHISAMBA Dubai. “It is a unique melting pot of cultures and traditions, and we have used this inspiration, along with the city’s inherent penchant for glamour to create a SUSHISAMBA location that was as refined and dynamic as Dubai.”

Drawing influence from the culinary traditions created by the Japanese diaspora in Brazil and Peru during the early 20th century, SUSHISAMBA Dubai’s menu will feature the likes of Crispy Hokkaido Scallop, Crispy Yellowtail Taquitos, Japanese A5 Wagyu Beef Gyoza, Pulpo Asado, Wagyu A4 Japanese Claypot, Seviche Platter and Peruvian Corn Salad. And considering the emphasis on quality ingredients, you can expect to dine on seafood flown in directly from Japan alongside fresh, organic vegetables and produce sourced from locally based farms. We suggest you start your SUSHISAMBA Dubai experience with the aptly named SAMBA Dubai roll – you’ll know why come November.
