These global icons added a touch of stardom to the historic landscape.

Saudi Arabia has been upping its tourism game, and one destination in the Kingdom that everyone seems to be heading to — and loving — is AlUla. This historic town recently witnessed the presence of two global icons — football star Cristiano Ronaldo and Hollywood actress Sharon Stone. The picturesque surroundings of AlUla served as a backdrop for their exploration and engagement with the local culture. 

Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction. A global sports icon, his prowess on the field has earned him countless accolades and a massive fan following. His charisma extends beyond the football pitch, making him a recognisable face worldwide. Plus, his recent move to Saudi Arabia has helped elevate the country’s reputation. 

This time around, he ventured to AlUla where he was seen amidst the canyons, showcasing the breathtaking natural beauty of the region. His partner, Georgina Rodriguez, accompanied him and was spotted at the UNESCO World Heritage site Hegra.

Apart from her iconic roles in movies like Total Recall and Basic Instinct, Hollywood actress Sharon Stone is known for her philanthropic work and artistic endeavours.

She too visited Hegra in AlUla but her visit involved a deep dive into the region’s creative and cultural life. At Madrasat Addeera, a girls’ school in the AlJadidah Arts District, Stone engaged with local artists specialising in traditional crafts like palm weaving, pottery, and embroidery. She expressed admiration for the skill and dedication of the women.

She debunked preconceived notions about Saudi Arabia, saying, “All the things we are told, the negatives, and controversial constructs about the region are untrue.” She commended the emerging wave of women’s rights and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome she received. The actress also showcased her artistic side by painting a locally inspired artwork. Her visit concluded with a visit to AlUla’s new state-of-the-art production facility, where she witnessed the region’s film ambitions for the future.

AlUla is located in northwest Saudi Arabia. It’s a historic landscape with a rich tapestry of cultural and natural wonders.
