Dubai Challenge Cup to take football fever to new heights

The first edition of this event will begin on 26 January.

The UAE is known for its fancy lifestyle and it’s been making its mark as a sporting hub with events like the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Dubai World Cup, and many more. Now, another sporting event is entering the mix. Clear your calendars because the inaugural Dubai Challenge Cup will take football fever to new heights in the emirate.

Promising to be a spectacular showdown, this event will showcase the sporting prowess of four powerhouse clubs from China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Morocco. Kicking off the excitement, the tournament opener on 26 January will witness a clash between fourteen-time Egyptian champions Zamalek SC, led by the formidable Shikabala, and three-time CAF Champions League winners Raja Club Athletic from Morocco.

On the following day, Chinese side Wuhan Three Towns, captained by Davidson da Luz Pereira, will take on Al-Ahli Saudi. Brace yourselves for this one because former Liverpool player Roberto Firmino is set to shine on the pitch for Al-Ahli Saudi, alongside the dynamic French forward Allan Saint-Maximin.

In the semi-finals on 28 January, teams will play two matches each. Winners will move to the intense final round and the remaining two teams will battle for third and fourth place.

The Dubai Challenge Cup is a significant addition to the city’s year-round calendar of world-class sporting events. Aligning with the vision of the Dubai Economic Agenda, the tournament solidifies Dubai’s position as a top global city for both business and leisure.
