Apple’s latest software update brings a smarter Siri, AI photo tools, stronger parental controls and faster everyday performance.
Apple has unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC26, introducing one of its most significant software updates in recent years. Announced at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, the new iPhone operating system places Apple Intelligence at the centre of the user experience, with Siri AI leading the charge.
The biggest talking point is Siri AI, a redesigned version of Apple’s voice assistant built to feel more conversational, contextual and useful. Rather than simply responding to basic commands, Siri AI can understand what is happening on screen, search across personal apps and respond using broader web knowledge. This means users can ask for an old photo, locate an email, pull information from notes, or take action across apps using natural language.
Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app. The new app brings conversations together in one place, allowing users to revisit previous chats, start new ones, and continue across Apple devices via iCloud sync.
The Camera app is also getting smarter. With Siri mode and Visual Intelligence, users can point their iPhone at an object, place, image or product and ask questions about what they are seeing. The feature can help identify items, provide information, and offer useful actions directly from the viewfinder. It is designed to make the camera feel less like a tool for taking photos and more like a gateway to real-time discovery.
Photography receives another boost through AI editing tools in Photos. Spatial Reframing helps users improve composition after a picture has been taken, while enhanced Clean Up and image editing features make it easier to refine shots without relying on third-party apps.
Apple is also placing a greater focus on families. iOS 27 includes expanded child safety features, improved Screen Time controls, Ask to Browse permissions and clearer tools for parents setting up child accounts. Parents can manage app access, approve new websites and set time allowances across categories such as games, entertainment and social media.
Performance is another major part of the update. Apple says iOS 27 brings faster app launches, quicker photo loading and improved AirDrop speeds. Liquid Glass, the design language introduced with iOS 26, has also been refined with better contrast, improved readability and new customisation options.
When will iOS 27 be available?
iOS 27 will launch as a free software update this fall, with developer testing available now and a public beta arriving next month. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features will be available on supported devices, including iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With Siri AI, smarter photos, safer family tools and system-wide speed improvements, iOS 27 signals a clear shift in Apple’s software strategy. The iPhone is becoming more personal, more responsive and more closely connected to the way people search, create, communicate and manage daily life.
