The 2027 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will feature an F1 Sprint for the first time, adding another day of competitive racing to the season finale.

We’re still a few weeks away from one of the biggest events in Abu Dhabi – the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which brings the F1 season to a close at Yas Marina Circuit. But fans already have something else to look forward to, with the dates for the 2027 edition now confirmed and a brand-new addition to the race weekend. For the first time, Abu Dhabi will host an F1 Sprint race, adding even more action to what is already one of the biggest weekends on the capital’s calendar.

The 2027 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place from 9 to 12 December 2027, once again serving as the finale race of the season. As in previous years, the action will unfold at Yas Marina Circuit, but next year’s schedule will look a little different, with competitive F1 racing kicking off on Friday and the new Sprint format taking centre stage on Saturday.

If you’re new to the F1 Sprint format, think of it as a short, fast-paced race that adds another competitive session to the Grand Prix weekend. First introduced in 2021, the Sprint covers 100km, takes around 30 minutes to complete, and has no mandatory pit stops. The Sprint winner will also pick up eight championship points, with points available down the finishing order.

In 2027, Yas Marina Circuit will be one of just 10 venues on the F1 calendar to host a Sprint. The format is designed for circuits with strong overtaking potential, encouraging drivers to go flat-out from start to finish. For fans in Abu Dhabi, that means more competitive racing and higher stakes across the Formula 1 weekend.
