Gianni Versace in Dubai: Relive the scandals and style in an immersive show

Host with Legends shares stories and secrets from the fashion designer’s life.

Gianni Versace once said: “In the past, people were born royal, nowadays, royalty comes from what you do”. Now, if you want a taste of his glamorous lifestyle, you can head to the Host with Legends: Gianni Versace dinner at W Dubai – Mina Seyahi. Running from 18 to 25 November, it looks set to be a fashionable night out. 

Host with Legends: Gianni Versace will be an immersive show, which celebrates the world-famous fashion designer. The event will share stories, styles and scandals from his life. The event includes an afternoon tea and art party, as guests will be able to make an art piece inspired by the fashion house. 

Gianni was born in Calabria, Italy and is part of the famous fashion family. In 1978, he launched the brand under the name Gianni Versace Donna, and it opened its first boutique store in Milan. The brand went on to produce accessories, make-up and fashion for men and women.  

Versace has dressed celebrities including Elton John, Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson. The brand is known for pushing the boundaries and creating provocative outfits, which have hit the headlines. For the Four Weddings and a Funeral film premiere, actress Elizabeth Hurley wore a little black dress held together by safety pins. For the 42nd Grammy Awards, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez wore a green sheer dress with a low neckline that reached the naval. Jennifer’s Versace look broke the Internet before it was even a phrase, and was the catalyst that created Google Images.

In 1997, Gianni was tragically shot outside of his home in Miami Beach, Florida. His funeral was attended by more than 2,000 people including Carla Bruni, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Princess Diana (who died one month later). Today, the Artistic Director of the brand is Gianni’s sister, Donatella Versace.
