London’s Berenjak brings Persian cuisine to the UAE

The UK-based Persian restaurant is making its way to Dubai and Sharjah.

If you’re a foodie with a passion for exploring diverse cuisines, get ready to embark on a culinary journey like no other. London’s Berenjak — which was also awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 — is coming to the UAE. Set to open in Dubai’s Dar Wasl Mall and Sharjah’s Al Jada district, this upcoming eatery — with outposts in London’s Soho and Borough — is touted to make waves in the local food scene.

Berenjak takes its name from a whimsical source — the brightly coloured, toasted rice eaten as a snack at funfairs in Persia. But there’s so much more to Berenjak than its name, as it’s a gateway to the rich cultural history of Iran.

Berenjak is all about authenticity and innovation. The restaurant focuses on Persian dishes, with a specialisation in small mezze-style sharing plates and charcoal-grilled kebabs. As you sit down at Berenjak, you’ll have the opportunity to try Balal, a tempting dish featuring corn, chilli, lime, and chives, or Sibzamini, crispy fried potatoes served with kordi sauce and Rezet yoghurt. The Shirazi salad, made from cucumber, tomato, onion, and mint, also makes for a refreshing delight. Additionally, expect spices, dips, pickles, and an abundance of fresh herbs as these flavours remind the founder of Berenjak, Kian Samyani, of his childhood memories.

Berenjak is expected to open in Dubai this November, however, details of its Sharjah opening are still under wraps. Nevertheless, UAE diners can look forward to a unique dining experience that’s infused with tradition, innovation, and a whole lot of flavour.
