Middle Eastern favourite Bait Maryam expands with Sufret Maryam

Chef Salam Daqqaq will open the new restaurant in Wasl 51.

Bait Maryam is one of the UAE’s much-loved Middle Eastern restaurants. The team have been awarded the MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand, and have a firm following. Now, it is expanding and creating Sufret Maryam in Dubai.

Located in Wasl 51, Sufret Maryam will offer an elevated take on Levantine cuisine. The Palestinian chef Salam Daqqaq will be at its helm, and draws inspiration from her ancestorial roots. She was born in Palestine, grew up in Jordan and later moved to Saudi Arabia.

When Salam moved to the UAE, she decided to fulfil her dream of becoming a chef. In 2017, she opened Bait Maryam in JLT, Dubai, which proved to be an instant success. The menu is a tribute to her mother and boasts a casual and cosy atmosphere.

Salam was also named the Middle East & North Africa’s Best Female Chef 2023, by MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants. The restaurant is currently ranked at number 23 on the list.

So far, we know that Sufret Maryam will be designed by Samar Zaakhem. The interior design firm specialises in hospitality and retail spaces. The team shared, “It’s not just a restaurant; it’s where flavours meet passion”.”

Bait Maryam and Salam Daqqaq recently featured on the Netflix series, Somebody Feed Phil. The show follows the presenter, Philip Rosenthal, as he tries food from around the world. In a recent episode, he headed to Dubai and visited the restaurant.
