Dining in Dubai is never short of exciting new openings, and now, a familiar name is set to make a comeback. Cova, the historic Milanese pasticceria, is returning to Dubai, with a new location set to open in DIFC.
The Italian institution first arrived in Dubai in 2018, opening in Fashion Avenue at The Dubai Mall. Bringing a taste of Milan to Downtown Dubai, Cova featured an elegant space and outdoor terrace overlooking the Dubai Fountain, Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa. However, the Dubai outpost eventually closed, with the brand announcing its departure on Instagram in 2021.
Now, several years later, Cova Dubai appears to be making a comeback. Hoarding for the new Cova location has been spotted in DIFC by the FACT team, hinting that the Milanese dining concept could soon return to Dubai’s restaurant scene. And this time, there may be more to Cova than its famous pastries and coffee.
With the new location in one of Dubai’s biggest dining hubs, there’s plenty of reason to think this outpost of Cova could be more of a restaurant than a straightforward pasticceria. If its existing international locations are anything to go by, expect the signature cakes, pastries, pralines and Italian coffee to remain very much part of the experience, but potentially alongside a more extensive all-day dining menu.
Founded in Milan in 1817, Cova is one of Italy’s historic pasticcerias and has long been associated with old-school Italian elegance, elaborate pastries and the art of lingering over coffee. The original Cova opened near Teatro alla Scala before moving to Via Montenapoleone in the 1950s, where its flagship remains today. While pastry remains very much at the heart of the brand, Cova’s modern-day locations have expanded well beyond the traditional café-and-cake format.
Cova has continued to expand internationally and can now be found across Europe and Asia, including Milan, Paris, Monaco, Bangkok, Budapest and Istanbul. Closer to home, Cova currently has locations at Bujairi Terrace in Riyadh, Prestige Avenues Mall in Kuwait City and Oasis Department Store in Doha.
For now, the details remain under wraps. There’s no confirmed opening date or word yet on exactly what the new DIFC concept will look like, but the arrival of Cova hoarding is enough to get Dubai’s dining crowd curious. Stay tuned to FACT to find out.
