From the team behind FACT award-winning Sticky Rice, Kew’s is bringing premium beef tallow fried chicken to JVC in Dubai.

Dubai is no stranger to fried chicken. Across the city, you’ll find everything from fiery wings to crisp, golden tenders, proving that this much-loved comfort food continues to draw a crowd. Now, a new contender is entering the conversation, and Kew’s fried chicken in Dubai comes with a story that feels more personal than most.

Opening on Friday, 13 March, Kew’s is the latest concept from the team behind Sticky Rice, the FACT award-winning restaurant that has built a loyal following for its soulful Thai cooking. Launching from Sticky Rice’s home in JVC, the new venue marks a natural evolution for a brand that has already made its mark on Dubai’s dining scene.

Kew’s in Dubai may focus on fantastic fried chicken, but it is not trying to replicate what is already out there. Instead, it is carving out its own identity with what it describes as the Middle East’s first fried chicken concept to use premium beef tallow exclusively. A traditional, all-natural cooking fat, beef tallow is prized for the richness and depth it brings, giving the chicken a fuller flavour and a crisp finish that should set it apart from the usual fast-casual offering.

Kew’s menu in Dubai goes beyond the signature fried chicken. Diners can also expect crispy tallow fries, a chicken sandwich served in Hokkaido milk bread, Sticky Tamarind, Kong Kang, Thai BBQ, sour mango slaw, Hainanese rice and tropical coconut milk-based shakes. The result is a line-up that feels playful, indulgent and rooted in the same spirit that made Sticky Rice such a success.

The name Kew’s is also more than clever branding. It references Sticky Rice’s yellow duckling mascot, Kew, creating a link between the old favourite and its latest chapter. That sense of continuity matters, particularly given the story behind the business.

Sticky Rice began as a passion project from Amena Rakkuson, affectionately known as Mama, and her son, Mo Abedin. A self-taught cook with a dream of opening her own restaurant, Amena started by preparing meals in her family kitchen and delivering them across Dubai. Her food quickly earned a devoted following. After her passing in 2021 due to COVID-19-related complications, Sticky Rice became part of her legacy. Kew’s now builds on that foundation, offering something fresh while honouring the warmth, ambition and spirit that made the original so special.
