Chef Akmal launches a new communal dining concept in Dubai, offering heartfelt food, shared conversation and a simple way to support both the city’s hospitality community.

Chef Akmal Anuar is bringing a new sense of togetherness to the dining scene in Dubai with the launch of The Extended Table, a communal concept designed to nourish both guests and the wider community.

At a time when many businesses across the UAE are navigating ongoing challenges, gestures of generosity and connection are carrying extra meaning. The Extended Table taps into that spirit through something simple yet powerful: sitting down to share a meal. Rather than focusing solely on the restaurant experience, Chef Akmal is creating a space where food becomes a way to support others, spark conversation and strengthen community ties.

Best known for the bold, flavour-driven cooking at Funkcoolio and the FACT award-winning Harummanis, Chef Akmal Anuar has built a reputation for food that feels expressive and full of personality. With The Extended Table, he takes that same approach and applies it to a more intimate format. Guests can expect a rotating spread of dishes served at a shared table, encouraging diners to come together over plates made for passing, sharing and discussing.

The idea is refreshingly straightforward. As more people join, the table grows longer. In doing so, the concept becomes a visible expression of support for the restaurants, their teams and the people who continue to champion independent hospitality in Dubai.

Menus will change daily, shaped by ingredient availability and the realities of the moment, allowing the kitchen to respond creatively while also reducing food waste. While some ingredients may currently be harder to source, the focus remains firmly on producing dishes that are comforting, generous and cooked with care.

Priced at AED 150 per person, The Extended Table in Dubai has been designed to remain accessible. Guests who feel moved to contribute more are welcome to do so, adding another layer of support to the initiative. In keeping with the spirit of the concept, the team is also offering meals on the house to those who may need one. Anyone wishing to nominate someone for a complimentary seat at the table is encouraged to reach out directly.

The Extended Table in Dubai will run daily. On 14, 16 and 18 April 2026, the experience will take place at Funkcoolio, while on 15, 17 and 19 April 2026, it moves to Harummanis. Each dinner begins at 7pm.
