The island is situated 112 kilometres off the coast of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority has announced that Sir Bu Nair Island will open to visitors for the first time. If you’d like to join the fun, then visit the Sir Bu Nair Festival.
Sir Bu Nair Festival is an annual event organised by Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority. Running from 16 to 25 October 2025, it features marine sports, turtle releases, educational workshops and cultural exhibitions. The festival showcases the biodiversity of Sir Bu Nair Island and promotes sustainable tourism.

The festival will be offering free boat trips as part of the closing events on 25 October. Plus, there will be special island celebrations on 24 and 25 October.
Situated 112 kilometres off the coast of Sharjah, the four-kilometre-long island, Sir Bu Nair Island, is one of the emirate’s most significant natural reserves. Authorities declared the area a protected area in the year 2000. Here, green turtles, sooty gulls, terns and migratory seabirds thrive alongside deer, hedgehogs and reptiles.

Access has long been tightly controlled to prevent disturbance to nesting turtles, bird colonies and fragile reefs, with visits managed by Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority and security teams. The authority aims to transform the island into a luxury destination, which showcases the region’s cultural and architectural heritage.
The island is a sanctuary for endangered species, including hawksbill and green sea turtles. The species come to the shores between March and June. Plus, the waters are home to over 76 species of coral fish, 40 types of coral reefs, and the redcoat fish.
