The Japanese-inspired ramen house will open at the new First Avenue Mall Jumeirah later this year.

Dubai’s appetite for Japanese food shows no signs of slowing down. The city’s dining scene has moved well beyond sushi and sashimi, with omakase counters, izakayas and handroll bars now joined by a growing number of specialist ramen restaurants. From steaming bowls of tonkotsu to noodles served alongside Japanese street-food favourites, casual concepts are proving increasingly popular. Now, Tora Tora is preparing to enter the mix with a new ramen house in Jumeirah.

Scheduled to open at First Avenue Mall Jumeirah later this year, Tora Tora will be a modern Japanese ramen house inspired by the energy and visual language of Japanese street culture. The concept is aiming for something lively and accessible rather than formal, creating a restaurant suited to quick lunches, casual dinners and gatherings with friends.

Ramen will naturally sit at the centre of the menu. While the full selection has yet to be revealed, diners can look forward to freshly prepared bowls made using carefully developed recipes and quality ingredients. Japanese street food, small plates, comfort dishes, drinks and desserts will round out the offering.

The restaurant’s name also provides a clue to its personality. Tora means “tiger” in Japanese, with the animal’s strength and confidence influencing everything from the branding to the atmosphere in the dining room.

Australian design studio mckimm is behind the interiors, which will combine Japanese references with contemporary details and will revolve around an interactive kitchen at the centre of the restaurant. The arrangement is designed to bring diners closer to the action, allowing them to see more of the preparation and craftsmanship that goes into each bowl.

“Our vision for Tora Tora is to create a ramen destination that celebrates authentic flavours, careful craftsmanship and the vibrant energy of Japanese street culture. From the broths and noodles to the overall atmosphere, every detail is being thoughtfully developed to offer guests an experience that feels welcoming, exciting and full of character. We look forward to opening our doors in Jumeirah and introducing the community to Tora Tora” said Hironori Gouda, Consultant Chef at Tora Tora.

The restaurant will operate entirely on a walk-in basis, meaning there will be no reservations and diners can simply arrive whenever a ramen craving hits.

The new ramen house will be in good company at First Avenue Mall Jumeirah, which is shaping up to be an exciting new dining destination. The ramen restaurant will join celebrity favourite Jon & Vinny’s, Japanese concept Lost in Tokyo and BASMA, a new Levantine eatery from the team behind Rascals.
