Rascals Deli launches an adorable Hello Kitty pop-up

The cute café celebrates the Japanese character.

It’s time to say konnichiwa to the Rascals Deli Hello Kitty pop-up. The popular sandwich shop has drawn inspiration from the Japanese character, and following its successful pop-up at Sole DXB, the concept is expanding to the OG store in Wasl Square until the end of the month. The windows include an eye-catching Hello Kitty image, drinks are served in pink cups with a Hello Kitty face, and biscuits come with Hello Kitty icing. Plus, there is special merchandise available with Rascals Deli and Hello Kitty branding, from bags to water bottles.

Rascals Deli is known for its statement sandwiches, which are made with thick pieces of bread and moreish fillings. The Breakfast Sando includes bacon, cheese, croissant bread and eggs. The Breakfast Muffin includes English muffin, fried egg, tomato bacon and sausage patty. The Rascal (a FACT favourite) includes bresaola, provolone cheese and salami. The Tuna Picante includes oak leaf lettuce, tomato and tuna.

Hello Kitty was created by Yuko Shumizu. The character was originally known as the white kitten with no name. The name eventually came from Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking-Glass. In 1975, the image first appeared on a vinyl coin purse. It wasn’t until the 1990s that it was marketed around the world, and grew in popularity among teenage girls.

Today, Hello Kitty is estimated to be worth $8 billion a year. UNICEF appointed Hello Kitty as a children’s ambassador, and Japan appointed Hello Kitty as a tourism ambassador.
