Cool concerts in the UAE: From Kendrick Lamar to Kylie Minogue

Whether you’re a teenybopper or K-popper, here are the best music, comedy and theatre shows.

Put your hands in the air if you missed concerts. Live entertainment is well and truly back in the UAE and with the lifting of social distancing measures comes a slew of artists taking to stages across Abu Dhabi and Dubai. So, if you’re a lover of live music, comedy and theatre, these are the all-important dates for your diaries. Curtain up – here are the best concerts in the UAE. 

The Script: 5 October 

Irish rock band, The Script have added a stop in Dubai to their Greatest Hits World Tour. Lead vocalist and keyboardist Danny O’Donoghue, guitarist Mark Sheehan, and drummer Glen Power will take to the stage at Bla Bla in JBR. Playing inside The Tent to a limited capacity audience will give fans an up-close and personal experience as they sing along to some of the band’s greatest hits, including Superheroes, Hall of Fame, No Good in Goodbye and The Man Who Can’t be Moved. Tickets are now available.

Travis: 17 October 

Throughout Dubai Opera’s autumn season, there are concerts galore.Why Does it Always Rain on me? might not be a relatable song in Dubai, but the Scottish hitmakers Travis are bringing this and their other classics to Dubai Opera. To mark their 20th anniversary, they are rocking the venue on 17 October. Tickets start from AED 240 and are now available.

George Ezra: 21 October

English singer-songwriter and Brit Award winner George Ezra will return to the UAE late this year, performing at Coca-Cola Arena. Concertgoers can expect exclusive performances from his renowned new album The Gold Rush Kid, including hit singles like Anything for You and Green Green Grass alongside his latest release, I Went Hunting. Jason Derulo: 28 October

The line-up of R&B megastars performing at Coca-Cola-Arena continues to expand, this time with news that Jason Derulo will return to Dubai, courtesy of Full Circle. Set to perform on Friday, 28 October, the award-winning singer/songwriter drew a huge crowd at Expo 2020 earlier this year. Now at work on his highly anticipated fifth album – and full-length debut for Atlantic Records – Derulo recently delivered a series of smash singles while operating as an independent artist. Those tracks include “Lifestyle” featuring Adam Levine, and the double-platinum “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)“, with its official BTS remix reaching the top slot on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Kaiser Chiefs: 28 October 

Club Social returns to Abu Dhabi with an exciting line-up this October. “Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby” will be filling the air, as Kaiser Chiefs kick-off the festival. The British indie rock band will perform their anthems, from I Predict a Riot to Everyday I Love You Less and Less. Tickets start from AED 125 and are now available.

Clean Bandit: 28 October 

There’s no place you’d rather be, as the electropop group Clean Bandit will also take to the stage at Club Social. The group have big hits with big names including Jess Glynne, Demi Lovato and Ellie Goulding. The DJ set is expected to include their chart-topping songs Rockabye, Symphony, and, of course, Rather Be. Tickets start from AED 125 and are now available.

Liam Gallagher: 29 October

British rock singer Liam Gallagher, who is famous as the frontman of Oasis, is set to perform solo hits alongside Oasis fan favourites on the second day of Club Social at Yas Links. The crowd will be treated to songs including Shockwave, Wall of Glass and Once. Tickets start from AED 125 and are now available.

DJ Hardwell: 4 November

DJ Hardwell has announced that he is bringing his Rebels Never Die world tour to Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena this winter. The show is taking place on 4 November, and tickets are now available. DJ Hardwell’s world tour coincides with the release of his new album, Rebels Never Die. Famous for creating high-energy shows, fans can expect to hear classic and new songs. He first gained recognition for his remix of Show me Love vs Be. Today, he is also known for hits I Feel Like DancingDon’t Let me Down and Power. Over his career, he has notched up 120 singles, 80 remixes, 11 compilation albums and two arena world tours. Tickets start from AED 175.

John Legend: 12 November

Music and art combine as singing sensation John Legend has announced that he is performing at Abu Dhabi’s The Louvre in celebration of the museum’s fifth anniversary. All of MeUsed to Love U and Ordinary People are just some of the hits that we are hoping he performs, as he brings his much-loved songs to the capital. The crowd pleaser is unique in being an EGOT winner, as he has won all the major entertainment awards – the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.

Disney’s The Lion King: 16 November to 10 December

25 years after Disney’s The Lion King premiered on Broadway, news of its debut in the Middle East is finally here – and the countdown has begun for the show’s four-week run at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. Incidentally, the musical has already entertained nearly 110 million people worldwide since its 1997 debut, with permanent residences in New York, London, Madrid and Tokyo. It has enjoyed further international touring success in New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and beyond. The story is basically a musical retelling of Hamlet, but with lions. Swedish House Mafia: 18 November

Swedish House Mafia were the first headliners announced for this year’s 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The group officially formed in 2008 and consists of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. Having worked with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Tinie Tempah and The Weeknd, you can expect to hear hit singles Don’t You Worry Child, Lifetime and Moth To A Flame from the EDM superstars in Abu Dhabi. Kendrick Lamar: 19 November

The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2022 is increasing the volume. We are buzzing with excitement, as Yasalam After-Race Concert Series has announced that American rapper Kendrick Lamar will be coming to the capital. The Grammy Award-winning artist has sold more than 70 million records, and recently got a nod from former President Barack Obama, as the rapper’s song Die Hard featured on Barack’s Summer Playlist. Tickets to the Yasalam After-Race Concert Series are exclusively available for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix ticket holders.

Calum Scott: 19 November

Fresh off the back of the release of his brand-new album Bridges, Calum Scott returns to Dubai for a headline show at the Hard Rock Café in November. His debut album, Only Human, hit number one on iTunes in 21 countries, entered the Top 10 on the US iTunes Chart, and has amassed over 6.4 billion combined streams. In 2021, he teamed up with Lost Frequencies for their massive hit single Where Are You Now, which has received over 750m streams in less than a year. Andrea Bocelli: 24 November

Hot on the heels of his performance at the Expo 2020 Dubai Opening Ceremony, world-renowned classical artist and six-time Grammy Award nominee Andrea Bocelli will return to the UAE with a one-off concert at Etihad Park, Yas Island. The world’s most beloved tenor will take to the stage at the Middle East’s largest outdoor venue, treating fans to a selection of hits, including Time To Say Goodbye and Vivo Por Lei. Lewis Capaldi: 24 November

Get ready to sing along to Lewis Capaldi’s big ballads, ranging from Someone you Loved to Before you Go. His debut song Bruises was so successful that it notched up 25 million plays on Spotify – all before he was a signed artist. We are expecting him to perform his classic hits, but he has also dropped hints on social media that a new album will be coming out later this year. So, Dubai may just be where he performs some of his new songs for the first time. Tickets start from AED 199 and are now available.

Post Malone: 3 December

Do the songs CirclesRockstar and Sunflower get your toes tapping? Well, you’ll be thrilled to hear that Post Malone, the man behind the hits, is coming to Abu Dhabi. The American rapper has announced that he is performing at Etihad Park on December 3. Post Malone performed in the UAE back in 2018, as part of F1’s Yasalam After-Race concerts. He stated: “I’m excited to be returning to Abu Dhabi and performing for the incredible audience there again. The crowd for my last show there were electric and I can’t wait to take to the stage and perform for my fans in the Middle East. Together, we’re going to enjoy a fantastic weekend.”

Kylie Minogue: 31 December

This New Year’s Eve, shout “happy new year” with an international megastar. Atlantis, The Palm has announced that Kylie Minogue is headlining its legendary New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner, A Night with the Stars, and it promises to be a night to remember. Kylie is returning to Atlantis, The Palm, as she first performed at the resort for its grand opening in 2008. The pop sensation is expected to perform her hit songs Can’t Get You Out Of My HeadSpinning Around and All The Lovers. Plus, classics such as I Should be so Lucky, Hand on your Heart and The Loco-Motion. To attend the concert and Dubai’s largest firework display, you must be a Gala Dinner ticket holder. Tickets start from AED 4,500 for children between 4 and 13 years old, and AED 5,900 for individuals 14 years old and above.

Jimmy Carr: 7 January 2023

Known for being one of the hardest working comedians in the industry, Jimmy Carr brings his Terribly Funny 2.0 World Tour to Etihad Arena, Yas Island, for an exclusive UAE performance. Jimmy is known for delivering one-liners and his extensive work across television and radio. His current comedy tour will feature over 280 shows this year. Tickets are now available.

Kevin Bridges: 21 January 2023

In January, comedian Kevin Bridges will return to the United Arab Emirates for a special show at Etihad Arena. The one-night-only show forms part of the comedian’s highly-anticipated Overdue Catch-Up World Tour. The tour, which kicks off in Liverpool next month, will be the UK’s biggest comedy tour in 2022. With a career spanning 18 years, Kevin Bridges already has the life experience of a man twice his age, helping him to hit the nail on the head with his shrewd outlook on the modern world. Imagine Dragons: 26 January 2023

Imagine Dragons will be bringing their Mercury World Tour to the capital in early 2023. The tour celebrates the release of the band’s highly-anticipated double-disc album, Mercury — Acts 1 & 2with a stop at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Imagine Dragons paved the way for their new album with the release of several chart-topping singles, including Bones with 331 million streams to date and the global smash Enemy” which has racked up 4.6 billion combined streams across two versions of the track. Joanne McNally: 27 January 2023

Irish comedian Joanne McNally will perform a headline show aboard the QE2 in January 2023. Described by the Sunday Times as a “truly gifted stand-up”, Joanne has taken Ireland and the UK’s comedy scene by storm in recent years. She has sold-out 50 nights at the world-famous Vicar Street in Dublin, four nights at the London Palladium and three nights at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo. Sting: 27 January 2023

Legendary British singer, Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, is coming to the UAE capital – aka Sting. The show will feature songs from his career, which spans five decades and includes Fields of GoldShape of my HeartRoxanneEnglishman In New YorkEvery Breath You Take and Message in a Bottle. During the show, Sting will be accompanied by his rock band and joined by special guest Joe Sumner (Sting’s son). Music clearly runs in the family, as Joe is also the singer and bassist of his own rock group, Fiction Plane. This isn’t Sting’s first concert in the UAE, as he performed in Abu Dhabi’s du Arena in 2013.

Blackpink: 28 January 2023

K-pop supergroup Blackpink are bringing their Born Pink world tour to Abu Dhabi. K-pop fans in the capital will be delighted, as the news follows the recent announcement that Hyperound K-Fest Abu Dhabi is coming to the UAE capital. The South Korean girl group start their world tour in October, and it will stop off at cities including Seoul, Singapore and Sydney. Blackpink are scheduled to perform in Riyadh on 20 January 2023 and Abu Dhabi at the end of January. Information about the concert venue, ticket prices and timings have not yet been released, but check in with FACT for the latest information.

Jackson Wang: 4 February 2023

Jackson Wang may have risen to fame as a member of K-pop boy band Got7, but now it’s time for his moment solo in the spotlight as he prepares to kick off his first ever world tour on 26 November in Bangkok, Thailand. As part of his Magic Man world tour, the Chinese artist will make his way to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, London and Paris before performing in Dubai on 4 February, 2023. As a solo artist, Jackson is the first Chinese solo singer to perform on the Coachella main stage. His latest album MAGIC MAN ranked Top 15 on Billboard 200 and Top 13 on Billboard Artist 100 in 2022. “MAGIC MAN is the ultimate form of oneself, having gone through different peaks and valleys of life to arrive at the most authentic version. Everyone is able to become their own form of MAGIC MAN. It’s not a mystery, everything is just magic,” said Jackson. Ticketing details for all cities are expected shortly.
