Abu Dhabi’s best new restaurants of 2023

These were 2023’s best new restaurants in the UAE capital.

Keeping track of all the new restaurants in Abu Dhabi is a full-time job. But if you love finding the latest hotspots for dinner and drinks before anyone else, then these are the culinary hotspots to see (and to be seen at) this month.

Alya

It’s not often that a restaurant is inspired by an artichoke but Alya in Abu Dhabi’s Beach Rotana Residences has been influenced by the vegetable, and offers fine dining Lebanese food. The menu has Lebanese classics including hummus in a classic, meat and, of course, artichoke flavours. The beef brisket has been braised for seven hours and comes with peppers and pine nuts. Dishes also include Lebanese Ceviche, Kabab Halloumi and Mhalabiyeh Cigar. Plus, there is baklava desert with mint and chives. Plus, there is an open kitchen so you can watch the chef at work.

Antonia Trattoria

Antonia has finally opened its second branch in the capital. Located in Al Zeina, this restaurant offers pizza unlike any you’ve ever tasted. Antonia’s unique sourdough has a story of its own, starting in 1972 when Grandma Antonia created this magical starter. Passed down through the family, the sourdough has matured, gaining complexity and taste with each passing year. Crafted with love and care, the dough is fermented for 72 hours, making it light, crispy, and oh-so-digestible. Antonia’s is all about the Pizza Al Taglio experience, which means “by the slice”. Expect rectangular trays loaded with various toppings, all displayed over the counter, waiting for you to pick your favourites.
